The Tallahassee Housing Authority is a quasi-governmental agency established in 1946 by State of Florida Statute 421.04 due to the shortage of decent, safe and sanitary housing and to provide persons of low-income affordable housing.

The THA administers two programs, public housing and Section 8 and has a full time certified maintenance program, two family self-sufficiency programs (public housing and Section 8), and has its own Finance Department. The overall policy making authority is the seven member Board of Commissioners. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provide funding.

Board of Commissioners
Appointed by the Mayor of the City of Tallahassee, the Board serves as the governing officers of the Tallahassee Housing Authority. Through formal adoption of policy, they ensure that the Authority’s purpose and accompanying responsibilities are carried out in as efficient and economical manner as possible. The seven board members volunteer their services to the Authority. Commissioners ensure that the Authority operates within the law and according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations.
