The Tallahassee Housing Authority has applied for
a HOPE VI grant for Ebony Garden Apartments with
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban development
(HUD). Ebony Gardens consists of 102 2-4 bedroom,
three story courtyard style units. Approval to demolish
them was received in February 2004, however; with
the HOPE VI grant, demolition and reconstruction
is a joint fundable venture. Once we receive this
award, families will receive housing choice vouchers
or be relocated to other THA owned communities.
On the present site, a 70 unit building for elderly
persons and persons with disabilities will be constructed
along with a combination of single family and town
homes. The redevelopment will also include homeownership
and special needs housing
