Director's Note

Dear Residents -

With more than 40 years in the housing industry and 13 years leading the Tallahassee Housing Authority, my heart is full of gratitude as I step into retirement (Sept. 30th). Serving as your Executive Director has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Together with an incredible team, we have worked with a shared mission: to provide safe, affordable housing and opportunities that uplift members of our community.

Over the years, we've accomplished more than just building and maintaining housing. We've built relationships, created pathways, and opened doors for families to grow and thrive. I am so proud of the progress we've made and the partnerships we've formed along the way. Most of all, I am deeply thankful for the trust you have given me to always keep your best interests first.

As THA turns the page to a new season of leadership, please know that the commitment to serving you remains strong. You are at the center of everything this organization does, and I have every bit of confidence that the future will bring even greater opportunities for our families and communities.

It has been my honor to serve you, and I'm excited to see all that the future holds for THA.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Brenda Williams headshot.

The Mission of the Tallahassee Housing Authority is to maintain and provide quality, affordable housing and facilitate a network of supportive services to enhance the quality of life of our residents.

Here's What We Do and How We Do It

Tallahassee Housing Authority provides quality affordable housing for low-to moderate-income households, fosters sustainable communities, and cultivates opportunities for residents to improve their lives in collaboration with local supportive services. Much of the public housing stock in Tallahassee is over forty years old and is well-maintained by the housing authority. Over time, we will work toward the redevelopment of our housing stock. A principal plan for redevelopment was completed for our Orange Avenue Apartment.

The Authority is governed by a volunteer seven-person Board of Commissioners; appointed by the City of Tallahassee Commission. Through formal adoption of policy, they ensure that the Authority is fiscally responsible and operates in an efficient manner.

The Authority consists of two (2) distinctive residential Public Housing communities, (aka Asset Management Properties or AMPs), located in the incorporated areas of Tallahassee, Florida. There are a total of 346 residential units consisting of 41 single-family detached homes, and 12 duplex units. The Authority also owns and maintains a 93-unit Low-Income Housing Tax Credit apartment community.

The Tallahassee Housing Authority is working to improve efficiencies so that all of our customers have access to information and services. Explore the various links on our website to find available rentals, services, more about our programs, and information about payments: www.tallha.org/about-tha

Back 2 School Bash at Pinewood

What better way to kick off a brand-new school year than with a big community celebration? The Pinewood Place community came together in a big way for this year's Back 2 School Bash! Hosted by the Tallahassee Housing Authority, the event was all about fun, community connection, and starting the school year on the right note. Families enjoyed games, food, music, and more - a true celebration of neighbors coming together.

In the middle of all the fun, THA also encouraged families to check out the Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program, a great resource to help residents set and reach their personal goals. It was the perfect reminder that community events can bring both joy and opportunity.

A huge thank you goes out to our amazing partners who made the day even more special: the G.C. Murray ICE Foundation, barber Jalen "PeezieDaBarber" Perkins, DJ Bryan "DJ Pring" Pringley, and photographer Syreeta "SST Lenz" Tucker.

As students head into a brand-new school year, we wish them all the best of luck! And we can't forget to thank the teachers, staff, and families who work so hard to support our students every single day. Here's to a year full of learning, growth, and great memories. Want to relive the fun? Take a look at some of the highlights captured from this unforgettable day!

City Wide Domestic Violence Awareness Event

This September 13th, join us for a Citywide Domestic Violence Awareness Event at Springfield Apartments. At THA, we are happy to host this important event with hopes of bringing together residents, leaders, and community organizations to shine a light on an issue that impacts so many families.

The event will provide resources, support, and education while also creating a space for connection and healing. We hope to see you there as we stand together to raise awareness and support survivors.

Holiday Office Closures

Please note that Tallahassee Housing Authority offices will be closed in observance of the following upcoming holiday:

  • Labor Day - Monday, September 1, 2025

We encourage all residents to plan accordingly. As always, we honor this day with gratitude- celebrating the contributions of workers and the value of rest, family, and community.

Medicare Moments No. 7

presented by Advantage Aging Solutions and the SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program

Should I Enroll in Medicare at 65 if I'm Still Working
Did you know that even though most people automatically qualify for premium-free Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Medicare Part B when they turn 65, many people delay enrolling in Medicare Part B during their Initial Enrollment Period, even if they're still working and covered by an employer's group health insurance plan (yours or your spouses)?

What if I delay my enrollment?

  • If you don't sign up for Medicare when you're first eligible and don't have coverage based on current employment (yours or your spouse's) you may have to pay a late-enrollment penalty later.

Things to Consider:
You may delay enrolling in Part B but should only do so if your (or your spouse's) job-based insurance would be the primary payer.

  • If your employer has more than 20 employees, Medicare is secondary, but it may still help pay for some of the costs not covered by your employer's insurance.
  • If your employer has fewer than 20 employees, your job-based insurance by itself may not provide sufficient coverage. In this case, enrolling in Part B would help you avoid incurring unnecessary high costs for your health care.

If you decide to wait until your (or your spouse's) job-based insurance comes to an end before enrolling in Medicare Part A and/or Part B, you will have an 8-month Special Enrollment Period to sign up that starts once you stop working or your group health
insurance coverage ends. You are still able to enroll any time while you are still working.

What if I have a Disability when I turn 65?
If you are receiving Social Security disability benefits when you turn 65, have kidney failure (End-Stage Renal Disease) or Lou Gehrig's Disease ALS), you will be automatically enrolled in both Part A and Part B.
